Planning Safe and Lawful Parades and Public Gatherings
Parades, festivals, and public gatherings are an important part of our community. These events bring people together, celebrate local traditions, and provide opportunities for residents and visitors to enjoy everything our community has to offer. However, organizing a successful event requires careful planning, coordination, and compliance with applicable state laws, local ordinances, and permitting requirements.
Proper planning helps ensure that events are conducted safely, responsibly, and in a manner that protects the rights and well-being of everyone involved. Depending on the nature and size of an event, organizers may need to coordinate with local officials and public safety agencies regarding traffic control, road closures, pedestrian safety, emergency vehicle access, crowd management, and other important considerations. Addressing these matters in advance helps identify potential risks and allows appropriate measures to be put in place before the event begins. Please note that all costs associated with meeting public safety requirements for the parade are the responsibility of the Parade Applicant.
Our primary responsibility is to protect the safety and well-being of our citizens, visitors, event participants, and spectators. We work to help ensure that public events are conducted in an orderly manner while minimizing disruptions and maintaining access for emergency services. Compliance with applicable laws and ordinances is not simply a formality; it is an essential part of creating an environment where people can gather, celebrate, and participate in community events with confidence.
We encourage anyone planning a parade, march, festival, or other organized public gathering to contact the appropriate local authorities well in advance. Early communication allows time to review event details, address any applicable requirements, coordinate necessary resources, and work together toward a safe and successful event. Through preparation, cooperation, and a shared commitment to public safety, we can support community activities while continuing to protect the people who live in, work in, and visit our community.
